Recently, there have been signs of a resurgence in a situation where Hong Kong residents are suspected of being lured to Southeast Asian countries (including Cambodia) and detained to engage in illegal work. The HKSAR Government reminds residents to pay extra attention to online recruitment advertisements or comments and exercise due caution against claims of ways to earn money quickly and jobs offering extraordinarily high remuneration without specific requirements for academic qualification or working experience.
Residents who intend to visit the country or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution and attend to personal safety. Residents in Cambodia who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, call the 1868 hotline using network data or use the 1868 Chatbot via the Immigration Department Mobile Application, send message to the 1868 WhatsApp assistance hotline, send message to the 1868 WeChat assistance hotline, submit the Online Assistance Request Form, or contact the Chinese Embassy / Consulate-General in Combodia at consular protection hotline: (855) 023210206.
