What is the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES)
The INES was introduced by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to facilitate better understanding of the event by the media and public in accordance with its safety significance in case of nuclear accidents and radiological incidents and accidents. Events are classified on the Scale at seven levels. Levels 1-3 are called "incidents" and Levels 4-7 "accidents". Those without safety significance are called "deviations" and are classified as "Below scale" / "Level 0".
